The cohesive bond that should exist between a dad and son scribes blueprint that powers the manifesto of successful entrepreneur Steve Day's GSD Sports Managements Company.
The organisation, housed from Cardiff Bay's futuristic Caspian Point offices, even carries the initials of father-of-six Day's youngest offspring and aspriring professional soccer star. George Stephen Day is, simply, the catalyst for the forty-something latest business adventure.
London born Day, whose Welsh brogue cuts across a west country lilt, believes, just as he did 25 years ago in the cut-throat sales and marketing and retail industries, that the so-called established can easily be bettered... Player's agents and many associates are terms "hawks with a" back of a fag-packet mentality" inbuilt with greed, with the correct ethics - a clear indication of the pragmatic businessmans distain for those, often self-projected, star-makers.
Little George, who bears an uncanny resemblence to a young Jimmy Bullard has already attracted the attention of Premiership Aston Villa, West Ham United and Birmingham City as well as other Championship Clubs.
Football fanatic Day, a man with a successful history of re-directing others' careers, is aiming to safely navigate youngsters through a minefield of distraction and on to soccer's professional ranks saying: "Sport is in my family. I had a few games down at Yeovil before the great Malcolm Allison told me to get a 'proper job'. I excelled at cricket - and played for the England schools team and should have taken that sporting route really but passion at the time ruled my head!"
"Business has somehow continued to take me close to football. I have many long-standing friends in the game - none better that Mark Bonner, the former Blackpool, Cardiff and Oldham Athletic player".
"Mark retired from soccer through injury a couple of years ago. But we are still very close. He has gone back to where he's from near Ormskirk, I helped him set up a lucrative furniture concern. Looking after his carreer during and after his time as a footballer was fantastic - and he became George's Godfather"
Day is convinced that longevity needs to be the key word in an agent-player relationship and cites the well-loved Harry Swales' association with PFA Player of the Year Ryan Giggs as being the example for him to follow saying:
"To me, Giggsy (Giggs) epitomised all that is good about soccer. He has played over 800 matches for one club, Manchester United, and has retrained the same advisor for years.
"I would say that Harry has been a father-like figure for Ryan - and that's the mantle I want to see GSD grasping for the lads in out stable. We have some excellent kids under our wing at this moment and we need to educate them in terms of the sort of life they need to live in order to maintain decent and long careers, at whatever lever.
"I believe I have assembled the best staff to achieve all the objectives. I have engaged some sharp minds in terms of scouting, and fitness advising. Mark Germain is known to be one of the best young talent spotters around in Wales, Mark Bonner in the North and Willie Mulgrew in Ireland. Jamie Baulch, a silver-medal winner at the Atlantic Olympic Games in 1996, is our fitness and dietary specialist and also our Director of Sport. Rob Ash who with his West Country based team ensure the efficient running of GSD on a daily basis".
"My own boy George is my inspiration to succeed at GSD. He no doubt like many others has a long path to go to fulfill his dreams but I keep his picture on my office desk. I never forget that he is the reason that I am here in this venture. I want to ensure all boys involved in football get the same quality of service and correct advice."
